Material design elevation – how to operate on a solid black background

If I want to use shadows to merge the elevation of material design in the GUI with a black background, can I? I can't see many articles about this on the Android website. Will the black background completely kill the elevation concept?

The background of material design is not completely black, because you won't have paper with color #000000, so you won't get good results. Moreover, under the black background, you can't set a deeper color for "action bar" and "notice bar", which is supposed in "material design"

If you want to use a dark theme, consider using a dark theme, for example #3030, such as the example in material design spec under "dark theme" at the bottom of the page
