How does the Android remote control work with Google TV

Any idea about how Google TV remote application on Android platform works. I just tried it today. It's paired through Wi Fi, and it's just beginning to work. What's the concept behind it? It doesn't seem to use Bluetooth. So how does it work without installing any components on the TV?

I know this is an old question, but I think I will add some additional details because the current answer is not very helpful. It works using IP, usually through WiFi, but not technically. The following are some more specific details of the actual communication used for device interaction

Google TV remote application uses Google's anonymous protocol, which can be used by any application to create a second screen style application. The anonymous protocol has several parts

The first is the discovery phase, in which the multicast DNS message is used to discover any GTV based device on the network. The mDNS message uses IP 224.0.0.251 port 5353 for multicast. Any GTV device receiving this message will respond with its computer name. At this time, we now have a list of possible GTV devices

The second / third stage is the identification and authentication stage, in which the TV sends out the challenge completed by the device. After this pairing is established, SSL certificates will be exchanged between the devices for future communication through a secure SSL / TLS channel

The last stage involves sending messages to GTV devices from tablet / phone / and other devices. Several messages are defined in the anonymous protocol. For example, the fling message is converted to the intention on GTV devices when received. This intent can be used in any way of normal intention
