Java – controls the position of page breaks

According to the documentation, displayTag can be configured through paging banner. The placement attribute places a page break before or after the generated table element
However, I want to place the pager in my own row in the table footer
Does anyone have an idea how to do this within the displayTag framework?
So far, the only solution I can see is to let displayTag generate page breaks as usual, and then use JavaScript to move the page breaks to new rows in the table footer
