Java programming environment: Emacs or eclipse?

I'm new to Java. I need to build a programming environment (edit, compile, test, debug and deploy / make jar files)

This is my problem

Is it wise to use Emacs for java development? Is eclipse suitable for java development?

Moreover, people usually use it in the java development environment? I mean, what tools might lead to more help than others?
