ODBC – SAP BusinessObjects crystal reports – where does the data source come from?

I was confused by (I believe in) a seemingly simple theoretical question about SAP BusinessObjects / Crystal Reports storing its data sources, which helped me change them to integrate with our new Maximo upgrade

One sentence summary: I can't find the location where SAP BusinessObjects or crystal reports caches its data source information, so I can change it; I can only see a data source name, not its server / port, etc

Brief background:

>I'm new to crystal reports and Maximo, but I'm not a general enterprise system, development or reporting > I've entered a company that uses crystal reports to integrate with IBM Maximo asset management (on Oracle database) > the only person who set it up has disappeared, with little or no documentation > I'm basically cleaning up the mess, but we're upgrading, I have to understand this system to make it work after the upgrade. > I cannot guarantee that our settings are "standard" or anywhere close to best practice

Question:

>We are upgrading Maximo system (5.2) to the new version (7.1). > We have ~ 150 crystal reports to query these (older) systems. I need to point to the new database to be tested > when I view the data source of a single crystal report (opened from the file system), the data source seems to be cached (only the data source name "Maximo", and the user name and PW are there) > I can't find the location of this elusive "Maximo" data source Anything I can't find in the crystal report file, SAP BusinessObjects web site or server does point to the actual location of the DB, so I can change it

Places I searched:

>For ODBC connection on the server: this may be promising, so I led it, but I didn't start here There is an ODBC connection for oracle on the server, called "maxprod", but it also does not indicate the server information; It just says that the server is "maxprod", with user name and password fields There is no sign of connection. > In the Crystal Reports (. RPT) file: on the data source selection screen, the initial option is to select the data source, but all the data sources listed are not related to Oracle or Maximo (because my machine does not have any data sources) (local DSN) However, if I click next, I will see the cached server information with Sid ("maxprod") and the fields of user ID and password There is no mention of server name, port, driver, database type, etc It seems to be cached ODBC information, but I don't know where it is stored. > Yes RPT file source code: no luck, because it is not a text file I hope it might be pure XML. > In the tnsnames file: I think because it is an Oracle dB, it may be stored in tnsnames In the ora file, this is the file that ODBC and crystal may be looking for But the only tnsnames files I found are samples or dedicated to irrelevant data sources (different servers, etc.) > in the configuration section of bussinesobjects Xi CMC website: again, here I can find a database connection, which allows me to select an ODBC connection, but it seems that there is a cache named "Maximo" that I cannot edit

Due to the lack of documents and the general dependence on memory, I have not been informed until today that all database servers are registered in the organization's LDAP and searched in this way Explain why I've never seen tnsnames Ora, and why no configuration information is not displayed anywhere, but there seems to be no cache
